EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CELLULITE
Cellulite, the dimples that so many consider a “body imperfection.” For anyone who has ever told you that cellulite is fat, they were wrong. It is nothing more than a harmless skin condition that is completely natural, experienced by up to 90% of women of all shapes and sizes, around the world.
WHAT IS CELLULITE?
Cellulite is often referred to as cottage-cheese skin or orange-peel skin and occurs mostly in the thigh and buttocks area, and mostly in women. According to health.com, it refers to the “puckered appearance” of skin when fatty tissue pushes through the fibrous bands that connect skin to muscle. But it isn’t fat.
WHAT CAUSES CELLULITE?
While the causes of cellulite are unknown, dermatologists believe that genetics, lifestyle and gender are all contributing factors. Loss of skin thickness, which happens as we age, can contribute to the appearance of cellulite, as can loose skin and sun damage.
When there is cellulite, there is often stretch marks too. This is simply our skin stretching and shrinking and can be caused by a variety of factors. You can get stretch marks from pregnancy, gaining or losing weight, and aging skin. And that’s okay. There’s nothing ugly about a so-called skin imperfection. We are not meant to be flawless human beings.
While loving yourself for who you are shouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary, cellulite and stretchmarks can dampen your self-confidence. Marks on our skin are too often considered unappealing, but we’re all about learning to love and embrace our unique bodies. There are certain things that filters on social media can’t hide, and that is a woman confident in her own skin. It’s a radiance like no other.
DO CERTAIN FOODS CAUSE CELLULITE?
One of the most overlooked cellulite causes is diet. If your diet is high in salt, starchy carbohydrates, sweets and fast-food, you’re more likely to have cellulite appear on your skin. Processed fatty foods and sugary drinks consumed too often don’t do your body any favours. You should enjoy these things in moderation and make vegetables and fresh, whole foods your source of main meals.
WHAT CAN I DO TO GET RID OF CELLULITE?
There is no magic treatment for cellulite, but there are ways to reduce the overall appearance of it. Exercises like lunges, squats, deadlifts and cardio all target different muscles. Once you get active, your body will start to build muscle and you’ll notice an improvement in your physique.
